What could be improved
Properly trained doctors with a command of the English language.
Anything else?
I was admitted to A & E by Ambulance with "a severe head wound" following an accident. The triage nurse and the nursing team were excellent, identifying severe trauma to my head and injuries to both wrists. My head wound was cleaned and my clearly broken left wrist was identified as a priority. Also they were made aware of severe pain in my right wrist, and due to the severity of my pain increasingly stronger pain relief was administered.
However when the locum Doctor became involved is when the wheels fell off........
My left wrist was x-rayed and following sedation it was manipulated and a fracture was set. After a couple of hours I was sent home in the care of my wife. I could remember little of the Doctor who treated me, but my wife told me she could hardly understand him..
When I attended the fracture clinic 48 hours later the Consultant ordered further x-rays.
They identifed a broken right wrist and a depressed skull fracture with broken right orbit.
The subsequent care I recieved following surgery to my left wrist and treatment to my right wrist was good. The Consultant was great, and made every effort on a Sunday to refer me to a Maxillo-facial surgeon.
2 weeks after my accident I underwent a 7 hour operation in Wythenshawe to rebuild my skull and right eye socket, which indicates the severity of my injuries.
Would you like to be admtted to an A&E department that failed to treat somebody(admitted by Ambulance "with a head injury" cleary on their admission notes), for that head injury?
Never again, there is clearly something wrong with the culture of a department that allowed this to happen.
