I had TVT surgery for SUI in March at Portsmouth hospital. When I woke from the anaesthetic I was in terrible pain and unable to pass urine. The pain did not improve and I had to self catheterise. I suffered from recurrent UTI's, pelvic pain, dyspaurenia and haematuria. In June an attempt was made to cut the sub urethral portion of the tape but I suffered anaphylaxis and respiratory arrest on induction of anaesthesia so the operation was cancelled. The anaphylaxis was attributed to the cocktail of analgesia I was taking post TVT surgery and worsening of pre existing asthma. Eventually the sub urethral portion of the tape was removed using spinal anaesthesia in July. I was able to pass urine but the terrible pelvic and suprapubic pain continued with recurrent UTI's. I lived on antibiotics. I researched the net to find a surgeon who could remove all the mesh and found Natalia in Oxford. I paid to see her privately and she agreed the mesh needed removing. I also joined a support group on FB called Sling the Mesh and Natalia was highly thought of among this group. I finally had the TVT removed on 19 months after my initial surgery at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford by Natalia. The care at the hospital was outstanding and the whole team professional at all times. The anaesthetist was fantastic and put me at ease from the outset. Natalia was able to remove all the mesh. Currently there are only 2 surgeons in England who have the necessary skills to remove mesh. As a result waiting times are long and women are suffering. She is a talented surgeon with a kind and understanding bedside manner. She has given me my life back. I can't thank her or the staff at the John Radcliffe hospital enough for helping me.
