"Staff are all top of their game"

About: Leverndale Hospital / Mental Health New Stobhill Hospital / General Psychiatry Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service

(as the patient),

I have recently come out of Leverndale after a short stay. Getting a 'bed' was difficult and understand the frustrations staff must feel.

Myself, I was there due to becoming a danger to myself(suicidal) and after being assessed at stobhill was transferred via ambulance to Leverndale.

Once there I spoke with the young psychiatrist who was on call. I waited from arrival late at night till around 4pm until it was confirmed I'd be staying at Leverndale, beds just couldn't be found.

The hospital itself, well firstly all the staff in Ward 4A are superb from cleaning staff to Doctors. Everything is new, all patients have they're own room. With common and dining areas and a well kept garden. Also like many now it offers Patient WIFI (not one staff member was aware of the password and after a visit from family member who's a nurse was told the password) as this can be very helpful as I didn't have a phone signal at all but was able to use my mobile device and speak with family over the internet. Also great amenity for down time, so was rather shocked fellow patients didn't have access to this.

The care I received was the best I ever have, and I've been to these types of hospital. Staff are all top of their game. Very attentive, kind and compassionate. Something you need in such an environment as this is an 'Acute' ward. While my stay was short, they have DVD nights for example in the common area. That being said it's not something I'd partake in with my mental illness. But I've seen first hand how bingo nights etc really aid patient management and recover.

I'd like to thank all the 4A 'massive' keep up the amazing work. Also the ambulance crew who done the transfer.

Nothing but the highest praise. Nobody enjoys being a hospital patient but while being unwell, I never doubted the care I was receiving and even the small chats with staff.

If I ever have to visit another hospital of this type out of the places I've been Lerverndale wins hands down.

So thank you, I'm now following with the aftercare put in place by the team.

Thanks for sharing your story. It sounds like you have been going through a difficult time recently and it was nice to read about your positive experience in Leverndale and about the ambulance staff who transferred you.

I was also pleased to read that you are following the aftercare plan and I wish you well for the future.

Take care

I work in a small team in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde which seeks to involve patients and carers in the work of the NHS. The biggest part of my role is in managing feedback projects across the Board area, one of which is Patient Opinion. It is my job to give our patients and carers the opportunity to give us feedback, and to make sure that this is passed to the right people to help us improve the services we provide.

Dear Fudge2015,

First of all, I would like to apologise that I haven't responded to you before now, I was having a look back through Patient Opinion and came across your story and felt it was still important to respond.

I am so pleased to hear that overall the care you received while in Leverndale was to such a high standard - I know the team will be so pleased that you have taken the time to comment about the kindness and compassion you were shown, as well as about the types of activities that they organise on the ward to help aid patients' recovery.

There are a couple of small details that you have highlighted that would be easy to fix, for example making sure that the staff know the WIFI password so that this is available for patients to use. The issues regarding the wait for a bed is more complex, but I will certainly highlight this - often if we make sure we are keeping patients up to date and informed of any delays, this can help reduce any additional worry or anxiety.

I hope that your aftercare plan continues to be going well for you, and I wish you all the best.

Kind Regards,

Lorna
