"i work for the NHS and have myself ..."

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

(as the patient),

What I liked

i work for the NHS and have myself been a patient in the NHS, so i have been able to experience the service from both views. it amazes me how people are quick to critisize the NHS and never say 'thank you for saving my life'. i was waiting to have surgery and was told to come in at 12pm. i didnt have surgery until 5pm because i was last on the list and i was nil by mouth from 7am. now, that is not the nurses or doctors fault. there were a few parients before me, we had to wait until their surgery was completed, and then we were sent to theatre. i worked in somalia for a few months, and there were people that used to camp for days and travel for hundreds of miles, just to get the free treatment that we were offering to them, because they are not fortunate enough to have a local hospital down the road. most people die of their conditions-conditions which are easily treatable in this country. i think people should start appreciating whats on their doorstep and the fact that they dont live somewhere like somalia. yes, the NHS does have flaws in its system, such as long waiting times, but does it matter so much if you are getting the best possible care for FREE? ia lso worked in america, and if you dont have adequate health insurance, you dont get adequate health care? would you rather wait for treatment or not get health care because you dont have health insurance?
