"Brain Tumour removal - Recovery on ward H7"

I arrived at Salford Royal on Tuesday 7:00 am for a major surgery to remove a tumour known as an Accoustic Neuroma.

Waited no more than 10 mins for full admission to start my surgery process.

Within 45 mins I was already being popped off to sleep.

I was fortunate to have a fantastic skull based team led by the doctor and my neuro team was led by the professor. It doesn't get any better.

When I was woken, some 9 hours later, the entire process had been completed and I was on high dependency ward H7 and being looked after by a team of nursing staff lead by the staff nurse. This dynamic nurse and their entire team of nurses, students, cleaners etc were respectful, hard working and nothing was to much trouble at any time.

The food and facilities were 1st class and are a shining star to our NHS

I spent just 4 days total time in the hospital and am now at home starting my long road to recovery.

At this level of major surgery, I was even given my own specialist nurse.

This nurse walked me through the entire process from start to finish and became my one to one contact for everything I needed to understand. A more knowledgeable member of the team would be hard to find and they were totally open and honest about what was going to happen to me throughout the process.

A real introduced to a radical pre operative treatment called Intratympanic Gentamycin treatment. This treatment vastly improves recovery time and reduces post operative sickness and balance related issues normally associated with AN treatments.
