"cancer ward- oncology"

About: Peterborough City Hospital

mixed feelings as still so raw.

long story short... my dad was told he had cancer last october, the services on the oncology ward was really good.

he had a turn for the worse on the 5th of december and was put on the surgical ward which was the wrong ward for someone so poorly! they were awful there & showed no respect whatsoever... left my dad in his own urine & left him in pain!! we finally got him moved to the oncology ward on the 10th of december at 9.30pm... to him then passing away on the 11th at 2.45am.

the short hours we as a family spent on oncology was fantastic... they gave my dad the care, love & support & respect he deserved! they recognised his face from him being in there 51 days before when getting dignosed! its 9 months tomorrow since he passed away & one day I will feel ready & strong enough to fundraise for the oncology ward.

Thank you for providing such a balanced response at such a sad time. I am sorry that you had a bad experience on the Surgical Ward but I am pleased when you got to Oncology they were able to give your Dad the love and care he needed. I can advise you that since your Dad was in hospital we have now started a 7 day service whereby there is access to our palliative care team everyday thereby helping to ensure all patients are treated the same irrespective of whether they are on the Oncology Ward.

Once again that you for your comments and my thoughts are with you at this sad time

Regards

Lesley Crosby

Acting Deputy Chief Nurse
