My mother recently died while at King George's Hospital. I am not going to moan about the staff but I am going to say something about the hospital.
The wards looked as though they were in a state of disrepair (she was on two wards at different times). The old, tired looking paint, which made one feel depressed, was peeling off the walls. The stand that the drip was on was in fact held together by tape.
The staff were simply overworked, in a ward that looked totally overcrowded. It reminded me of a place where you went to die, without too much in the way of dignity. The ward was mixed, one man walked around half-exposed. He may well have had dementia but he was not very well monitored.
My wife is German and this was really the first time she has visited an inpatient ward, her observation was, 'I would never want to be ill in England'.
I was embarrassed for a health system that I think is fantastic. King George's hospital was anything but fantastic. I am so sorry that my mother had to die in such a dreadful place.
