"Ward 26"

(as the patient),

As my father went in for an operation for suspected lung cancer on June 6th, I rang the ward to find out the results of the operation, as we as a family had been assured by the Consultant that we could phone to find out what they had discovered. After explaining this to the ward staff, she blatantly refused to give me any information on my fathers condition, although advised of the above. I felt she was rude, obnoxious and should not be allowed to speak to members of a patients family in this way. To give an answer that my father was "ok" was not acceptable, and when asked to speak to someone senior, she advised she could not do this. I rang the switchboard again and spoke to another consultant who knew of the situation and gladly gave me the information on the operation.

I know the NHS is under stress, but having people like this ward staff treating people in this manner is unacceptable. She would not even tell me if she was a nurse, sister or even the cleaner!
