On Thursday the 27th August I had a appointment at the Day Case Centre of Dr Grays Hospital under the care of Mr Alan Grant. I was extremely nervous about this appointment and had been fretting over it for weeks.
On arrival and during preparation for the procedure a full, detailed explanation was given by a very friendly, efficient and gentle nurse, making me feel comfortable and relaxed.
Mr Grant spent time with me as well, explaining in full detail what was going to happen. Nothing was rushed, a very generous amount of time was spent getting me relaxed and ready. Awesome.
The procedure itself was rather unpleasant for me. After a period in recovery Mr Grant had the unenviable duty to inform me that I had bowel cancer, this he did most gently with kind empathy and compassion, again explaining to me in great detail what would be done to rectify this problem.
He gave us plenty of time to digest this information and ask questions concerning the diagnosis. During all this time a very kind nurse was present, adding gentle, unobtrusive support to both my wife and me. Thinking about all this now I have to say that I am overwhelmed by the magnificent, generous, heart-warming support we received from ALL the nurses at a very difficult time.
I cannot thank these wonderful, dedicated ladies enough for making my very unpleasant experience in the hospital so bearable, specially now that I will have to spend a lot more time in their care before, during and after the upcoming essential surgery. Bless them.
