Even though I arrived on Cookson Devas at a very early hour I was greeted cheerfully by the staff and shown to my bed where all was ready for my surgery that morning. From the outset, I was impressed by the general atmosphere of calm efficiency coupled with genuine warmth which ensured the patient was able to relax and make themselves comfortable. All those involved in my care displayed the highest degree of professionalism at all times yet were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them.
This general air of well-being was evident in the operating theatre where again all concerned went out of their way to ensure the patients were as comfortable as possible and constantly offered reassurance and advice. I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to my lovely anaesthetic team for telling them I only suffered from ‘mild’ hay fever then promptly having a sneezing fit whilst wearing an oxygen mask; I was unable to at the time as suddenly it all went dark!
Due to my mobility problems I spent some time being transported around the hospital and again this was carried out with great courtesy, everyone ensuring they introduced themselves and constantly enquired as to my welfare. On my return to the ward I was presented with my meals, which were delicious and very well presented from an impressive menu; the choice and quality a testament to the Conquest catering staff.
The standard of hygiene on the ward was impressive as it was generally throughout the hospital and made me realise how fortunate we locals are to have this facility but, as always, it is about the people and I am sure the Conquest Management appreciate the lengths all their staff go to every single day to maintain this excellent level of service: I know the patients do.
"What A Wonderful Ward!"
