Unfortunately my husband took a Cardiac Arrest in Dumfries in June, thankfully he is doing well now, but during his 2 week stay I had plenty of time to observe nursing staff, their infection control practice and basic nursing care towards staff and their carers.
The care they provided was amazing, they were so kind and went out of their way to accommodate both my husband and myself. I was travelling quite a distance to Dumfries and the staff were so accommodating with regards to visiting etc. From the moment I arrived in A&E the care and compassion I received (as a carer) until my husband was discharged was amazing.
As a nurse myself, I couldn’t help but note staff practice and in particular their infection control practices both of which were fantastic. The staff were quick to point out to carers to use the hand gels on entering the ward, their attention to other aspects of the SICPS was also consistently great – use of PPE, safe disposal of waste, linen management. They also took the time to clean b/p cuffs consistently between patient use – which is a pleasant surprise and a novelty to me. The wards I am referring to are ICU, ward 9 and ward 8.
I would appreciate if you could pass this information onto the staff in the above wards as they really deserve to know that they are special and despite being busy treated everyone with respect, dignity and an extremely high level of care. I would also like to acknowldege the Facilities department how clean the hospital is from entry to the hospital and within the wards, again a credit to all at D&G.
"Excellent care and Infection Control Practice"
