I was an outpatient at the Breast Clinic and also the Gynaecology clinic yesterday having been placed on two two week wait lists for urgent treatment.
When I arrived at the Gynae clinic the nurse was already aware I had an appointment at the breast clinic that morning.
I was sent straight down for an ultrasound and only had to wait 5 minutes. The two radiographers, one not fully qualified, were fantastic. They explained the two procedures they were going to have to carry out on me. They were friendly and put me at my ease straight away.
I was then sent back to the Gynae clinic where I saw Sue who explained that the ultrasound was ok but they needed to carry out a biopsy.
I asked if this could be done after the breast clinic appointment. She said this was not a problem and to come back when I had finished there.
I then walked to the breast clinic and waited anxiously for my appointment. I was put at ease immediately by the nurse practitioner who was extremely kind and sympathetic. She said I needed to have a mammogram. I waited my turn. As many women know this is quite a traumatic procedure but again the nurse was very kind.
I returned to the nurse practitioner for my results. Again this was dealt with sympathetically.
I returned to the Gynae clinic and waited for the biopsy to be carried out. This was done sympathetically. The Procedure was explained to me in detail. I was then advised that the results would be sent to me within 10 days.
Whilst the whole experience of having to visit two different clinics in one day and with the worry of what they may find was quite an ordeal for me, but the medical staff were superb. The NHS often gets a bad press but they did me proud today Thank you ladies. You do a terrific job! !
