"I think they need to treat the patients better"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency Crosshouse Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

I attended a cardiology appointment at hospital last year as I always go every year for heart scans 'cause a genetic problem. When I was there the doctor that I was to see was off that day, so another doctor covered for him and did not have a clue about a thing. I had my letter for appointment to attend. Then, the doctor asks, 'why do you get scans?' and tells me, 'sorry, I don't know you. I don't have the notes with me'. I felt it was very unprofessional as the doctor should have known.

Another time, I got admitted to the hospitals CDU unit. As soon as I got in there, I wanted out. I went for a x-ray, next minute the nurse comes round and gives me my bags saying, 'we had to give your bed to someone else'. And also, I can remember shutting the curtains in my cubicle in the ward to get dressed and the nurse came along and ripped open the curtain saying, 'what do you think you're doing' in a very unpleasant manner, there's me standing there half dressed. I think they need to treat the patients better.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear unhappy patient 2,

Oh dear, this falls short of what we want for our care and I am very sorry. I will pass this on to the CDU and the Cardiology department for their consideration but I am not sure what area you were in when the curtain was pulled back while you were dressing. If you want to let me know where you were, I can pass this to that area too. If you wish, you can email me at eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk or phone me on 01563 826222 or you could post on the PO site if that is better for you.

Thank you for sharing this with us,.

Kind regards,

Eunice
