"no one believed me"

About: St John's Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

After I had a mirena coil inserted I suffered from the side effects of weight gain( which I can't shift no matter what I do)and after I got it removed my periods didn't come back.

I went to the doctor and got an appointment for an ultrasound and it had revealed that I had a cyst on my ovaries. After a second scan I have been sent to see a gynaecologist who was making me feel as so I am lazy and pretending that I have a problem with weight and that the gynaecologist can't help me.

I came out really not happy with the way I was spoken to. The gynaecologist also said that mirena coil doesn't make me gain so much weight ( I gained over 2 stone in 4 month after the IUD has been put in).

Overall I feel that I have a problem with my health and no one believed me and no suggestions about any eating plans to help with suspected pcos and statements that I simply eat a town of food.

Hello

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I apologise that the gynaecologist was unsympathetic and unhelpful. If you send me the name of the doctor by email I will follow this up. My email is melanie.johnson@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk

Meanwhile I suggest that if you remain unhappy with the coil and your weight gain you return to your GP or your local family planning clinic for further discussion about alternatives.

Best Wishes

Melanie
