"Ward 17 - A great service!!"

About: Airedale General Hospital

If I walk you through events, I think that will be a start... Saturday, our 3.5 year old, Eliza was pretending to be Elsa from Frozen, she was singing along and started to build a den in a chair at the back of the room. I was feeding my other daughter, Grace when I heard a bang, I looked over to see Eliza on the floor with a broken forearm. As you can imagine, our world started to slide into panic over seeing her distressed. I picked her up and ran to the car and straight to Airedale Hospital. Still clutching her arm, I carried and ran with her to A&E. This is the start of the amazing service we received for Eliza. The member of staff in reception rushed me though to the back into A&E Bay 9 where we saw a nurse and doctor, sorry their names escape me. After a X-ray the doctor said Eliza would be admitted to ward 17 over night and have an operation Sunday morning to manipulate her forearm. At home, my wife was upset as this kind of thing happens to other people not us. Ruth stayed looking after Grace where Eliza and I went to ward 17 to settle in for a overnight stay, at this point if I may add, Eliza was seeing this as a massive adventure and was loving it. We got to Ward 17 and a kind nurse brought her toast and ice cream which went down a storm!!! Sunday morning whilst trying to make a cup of tea, I bumped into a member of the day team. This nurse was assigned to Eliza and I cannot fault their professionalism and dedication to Eliza, This person was in mine and my wife's eyes the epitome of what the NHS stands for, nothing was too much trouble and they were always there for guidance and support at our most vulnerable moments. Also, there was a student nurse, apologies as I cannot remember their name but they worked with our nurse. Again, this person was brilliant, they spoke to my daughter in way so they could complete their task but make my daughter feel safe and comfortable - a true nurse in the making!!! To finish, thank you to both of you, we really appreciated your support, kindness and compassion, I think you're a credit to the NHS and Airedale NHS trust! Please could you ensure our sentiments are passed on to them and that they receive the praise they truly deserve. Warm regards, Lee, Ruth, Eliza & Grace
