"The staff were inspirational and passionate about their work and care"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Cardiology (Ward 4)

(as a relative),

At the start of July, my family and I were shocked to learn that my gran had taken a massive heart attack and was very ill. She was taken to Wishaw General and transferred to the Coronary Care Unit there.

We were notified early on the next morning that she was gravely ill and were told to tell whoever needed notified to come and see her. They gave us a family room for the entire day and allowed us all to go back and forth from there to see my gran in her hospital bed. We were constantly updated by the nurses and they made us feel very comfortable and made sure we had water, juice, tea and coffee and were incredibly patient with all of our questions and queries, especially with 19 family members going in and out in pairs. They were very attentive towards my gran and made her as comfortable as they could and spoke and handled her with such care and compassion.

When it became inevitable that she wasn't going to make it through the rest of the day, they allowed us all to spend as much time with her as we wanted. They let us all sit with her and talk away and in the end she was surrounded by a room full of family who got to say goodbye in a personal and intimate moment which some places would have not permitted because there was so many of us. This is something we are eternally grateful for as I am sure my gran was too.

The staff were inspirational and passionate about their work and the care they provided not just to us but to the patients as well. To get up and do that job every day with such enthusiasm and spirit must take a great deal of hard work and inner strength. We were so overwhelmed by the work they do we collected £510 at the funeral to donate to the unit for them to use to help them keep up the great work and to help other patients.

Well done to you all in the Coronary Care Unit at Wishaw General. You are a credit to your profession and to the hospital.

Dear Cleland1987

Thank you very much for getting in touch and for your comments in relation the care your grandmother received as a patient in our Coronary Care unit here at Wishaw General Hospital. I am sorry to learn of her passing and pass on my sincere sympathy to you and your family circle.

Your very positive comments are very welcome and I will ensure they are fed back to the staff in the unit who work so hard in ensuring the care we deliver to patients is of a high standard, as well as being compassionate to the families of our patients.

I would also like to thank you and your family for the very kind donation you plan to give to the Unit. This will be of much benefit to the Unit and will be used to assist with continually improving the experience of patients and families who use this service.

Best wishes to you and your family

Faith
