"My concurrent UTI"

About: NHS Lothian Western General Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

April 2014 I had a cystoscopy at the Westernal General Edinburgh. I have had lots of procedures in the past, but, this one fell short procedurally, in my opinion. After that I started getting recurrent uti infections, which required antibiotics. and since this initial procedure I have never been infection free since. Each time a course of antibiotic finishes I have about a 2 or 3 day window before symptoms come back. My GP sent requests to be seen asap at Urology ( these requests fell on deaf ears)! ! It was 8 months of continually being ill before I was seen at the pre-arranged appointment in February.

I was sent for a couple of tests around March (another cystoscopy and ultrasound) I have been waiting since then, still chronically ill, also attending OPAT at the Western General for intravenous antibiotics daily several times (I am now immune to most oral antibiotics). I have had numerous requests sent from GPs, consultants at OPAT, and from Gynaecology.

I have called my Urologist secretary who advised me it would be July/August perhaps. I have not had any word and decided to call again this week. I was informed by another secretary that there was no foreseeable appointment for me, and I was classed as a Routine Review, whereas this should have been escalated to higher.

I am so disappointed at the treatment I have received so far and despite the numerous letters from many consultants, GPs etc I am still classed as a "Routine Review". There is nothing "Routine" about being chronically ill for the last 16 months plus. This has caused total havoc on my life and health!

Update posted by Mara (the patient)

Hi Melanie,

Thankyou for getting back to me.

I now have an update on the situation. Two days after I called Urology, and my GP has also contacted them again, I received an appointment in the post for mid August. I am perplexed by this as I was told there was no forseeable appointment for my. However I am pleased!

Can I please contact you if I have more concerns?

Thank you very much for taking time to reply, it is much appreciated,

Mara
