"Pre Assessment prior to Out-Patient Admission -..."

About: Good Hope Hospital

This appointment was originally scheduled for admission to Heartlands hospital on Saturday 11th July. Because my name was entered on a female admission list in error, it was cancelled by consultation with me and moved to Good Hope on 15th July. To avoid this mistake in the future is there a free format area on the computer screen that can be coloured pink for female and blue for male admissions? This would alert the Waiting List Coodinator the correct Gender List for the patient was being used? Secondly, my pre-assessment was carried out on 7th July as if the admission was a Morning procedure. In fact the revised appointment was an afternoon procedure. A a result of a query I had on the low fibre diet I rang the Specialist Nurse at Good Hope the day before admission and discovered from them that the Moviprep medication needed to be carried out once in the previous evening and once in early morning the day of admission. This compared with my instruction at the original pre-assessment appointment that both preparations need to be taken the previous evening as that was a morning procedure. The Waiting List Coordinator needs to be aware and inform the Specialist Nurse at the new appointment location that the pre-assessment instructions require a change communicated to the patient to ensure the Moviprep medication is taken at the correct time. I found out by virtue of having a query over something else. In all other respects my out-patient admission and procedure was exemplary.

Dear Mr Potts

Thank you for your post regarding your procedure that was initially arranged at Heartlands Hospital.

My apologies for the error that occurred in you being scheduled on a female list and the inconvenience caused to you by having to be re-scheduled at Good Hope Hospital.

your suggestions are noted and will be forwarded to the Waiting List Co-Ordinator, and to the specialist nurses so that they are aware and will ensure that any change to the required preparation are effectively communicated to the patients in future.

I am pleased to note that otherwise you found your outpatient and procedure experience to be exemplary and will ensure that your positive comments are also communicated.

I hope that this is acceptable and please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your post.

If I can be of any other assistance I can be contacted either by telephone: 0121 424 0808 or by email: marie.helebert@heartofengland.nhs.uk.

Yours sincerely

Marie Helebert
