Complications of TVT mesh operations affect thousands.
Trans Virginal Tape (TVT) is used to treat stress incontinence in women. The bladder sling is made of strips of surgical mesh and is usually inserted through one vaginal incision and two small abdominal incisions.
TVT tape is known to have a devastating design fault a tendency to break up in the body, causing small fragments to cut their way into surrounding tissue. This is described as the ‘cheese wire effect’, because of the excruciating pain it causes. For many women they also suffer repeated pain and infection the Incontinence usually is worse than ever before the operation and the end of women’s sex life.
Having myself suffered from complications of The TVT operation I felt it necessary to give my side of the story. I had the TVT tape inserted in November 2013 everything seem to go well I was discharged the next day. Eight weeks after operation I started to experience pain in my vagina and felt that there was something trying to come out. After seeing the Dr I was told my body is rejecting the tape.
I then needed to have another operation in May 2014 the surgeon cut away the exposed tape, from then on I have been in extreme pain from my waist down and continuing to gradually get worse.
My mobility has deteriorated due to nerve pain and damage in the groin area I cannot walk any distance and now need crutches & a wheel chair to get around. I can no longer drive because my legs go into spasms, I am dependent on people to take me out and about. This has ruined my life & many others life. My marriage has suffered and the list will continue with many victims of this awful mesh that is being inserted into people.
I will need further sugary to remove the tape which is a complicated procedure and recovery time is six to twelve months, It is not always easy to remove the tape in one go so further operations may be needed. I am due to have my 4th operation in July 2015 at the UCLH.
I am only one of thousands of women suffering internal lacerations from the procedure that, in some cases, has left victims with difficulty walking and needing wheel chairs.
The issue was highlighted by the Mail two years ago yet extraordinarily, TVT is still in regular use in Britain, and women are being recommended for the surgery without being warned of the risks.
The TVT mesh has been banned in parts of America due to increasing problems. Scotland has also banned the tape due to further investigation; Wales are going to follow Scotland’s lead in banning the tape in the near future.
The latest NHS figures also show the number of affected women is rising by more than 500 a year, indicating that about one in 20 of the 13, 500 operations a year to insert the material go’s disastrously wrong. Women mesh sufferers in the UK are encouraged to write to the government or their MPs to help get this product banned before many more thousands of unsuspecting women end up in pain or worse end up being disabled.
I Personally believe once this mesh starts to reject it is causing so many other health issues these are just some of the symptoms women are suffering such as Diabetes, MG, Fibromyalgia, ME, Lupus and constant festering sores/boils and more! I firmly believe our immune systems have been badly affected due to the toxins within the make-up of the 'mesh' some of these toxins should never be allowed inside the body and unfortunately i feel the medical world refuse to believe it all came about from mesh.
I feel more people really should be informed about the dangers this tape is.
