"I need some answers"

About: Western Infirmary/Gartnavel General / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

Without going into too many details… I had my original surgery at the Western Infirmary, for a broken tibia and fibula. It healed, but the pain has got increasingly worse, and they told me arthritis had set in immediately? (which does not normally happen).

I had surgery to remove the metalwork, and then given an MRI to confirm this, they were quite happy to write me off at this point.

Since then I had a second opinion which said they would remove some bits of bone. The surgery has now been postponed, (due to the surgeon going on annual leave and on call), they took me off the list and onto a new list for another 12 weeks!

In between all this an appointment was cancelled at the Western Infirmary and a letter sent for me to go over to the Victoria Infirmary and when I got there they said we don't know why your here? Its a mistake? They got someone to call me that afternoon and she apologised and gave me an appointment this week for The Southern General and when I attended that I was told… We don't know why your here? We are sorry, but just wait for your surgery at the Royal Infirmary? I said but now thats postponed? I do believe that he was going to complain to someone about this. I am so angry as I have seen numerous consultants and been fobbed off by different consultants and in the meantime I am in pain and nobody knows why?

I need some answers as this is a disgrace

I work in a small team in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde which seeks to involve patients and carers in the work of the NHS. The biggest part of my role is in managing feedback projects across the Board area, one of which is Patient Opinion. It is my job to give our patients and carers the opportunity to give us feedback, and to make sure that this is passed to the right people to help us improve the services we provide.

Good morning and thanks for getting in touch. I really feel for you as I know that dealing with pain on a daily basis is distressing in itself, so to have had so many issues with communication around your appointments only increases the frustration you will be feeling.

As a start, I'd ask that you get in touch with me directly with some of your personal information so that we can look into what has happened here - my email address is lorna.gray@ggc.scot.nhs.uk. This will help us to take this forward with you and hopefully get you some of the answers you are looking for.

Best Wishes,

Lorna
