"Holiday visit to A & E"

About: Exmouth Hospital

Arrived at the hospital after my husband, Richard Browne, had fallen while attempted to erect a caravanning awning on the 2nd day of our holiday. Reception pointed us to the nurses/treatment and from then on service was exemplary. There were 2 nurses on duty (about 3 pm - 10th June) who quickly had my husband on a bed where he was questioned/examined. It was decided he needed an x-ray of his pelvic/hip area, this was arranged and we waited a short time for this to be done. He was also given an ECG as the nurse thought his heart rate was very slow. Nothing was too much trouble, everything was explained and we felt able to ask questions if needed. After the x-ray which showed a very tiny fracture of the pelvic area, a doctor looked at both the x-ray and ECG results and pronounced my husband well enough to return to our caravan. The nurse gave pain relief to my husband and also gave a prescription. The whole time we were at the hospital we were both treated courteously and with kindness, a great asset to 2 pensioners who came to your hospital with no appointment yet were seen within minutes of arriving. A very big thank you to our nurse who treated my husband + thanks also to the other nurse who was also around at the time.

Dear Mrs Browne

Firstly thank you very much for giving such a detailed account of your visit to the Minor Injuries unit at Exmouth hospital, as the staff involved in your care will be able to be contacted.

It was good to note you were able to be seen so promptly, and also able to return to continue your holiday with the aide of pain relief, after extensive tests had been completed. I do hope your husband enjoyed the rest of the holiday relatively pain free.

I have shared your very positive feedback with the nurses and doctors involved in your care, where I know they will be warmly appreciated, and hope you return to the West Country again in the future.

Many thanks
