"First time in a long time."

About: Lincoln County Hospital

Tuesday 9th March was the first time in a very long time I have actually set foot in a hospital as a patient. I was sent by my optometrist for emergency eye care. The speed of my treatment was commendable and the waiting time was well within expectations. Whilst the staff there were extremely helpful and treated me with great respect, the disappointing aspect of my visit was seeing hospital staff seated behind class partitions, and the need to communicate with them via an intercom. What the hell is wrong with society that our health care professionals need to take such draconian measures for their protection. Watching staff pass by behind these safety screens reminded me of fish in an aquarium. It was the saddest thing I have seen in a long time.

Dear Steve

Thank you for taking the time to write about your visit to A&E, these will be shared with the staff who I know will be pleased to read your kind thoughts. I am sorry you found the Reception area to be impersonal; when the department was redesigned we followed current guidance for planning A&E Reception areas. Whilst the majority of people attending do not pose a threat to A&E staff unfortunately some do and in the interest of staff safety, we had to follow current guidance.

Regards

Karen Hansord – A&E Sister
