What could be improved
My grandfather was addmitted from home and I have to admit the ambulance service were amazing. But the rest of the experience was horrific, my grandfather had vascular dementia which was overlooked by the nurses and doctors, he needed a scan (he was later diagnosed at another hospital with bowel cancer) but was delayed and left without food overnight. He soiled himself in his bed but instead of replacing the sheets they left him with nothing. the nurses were no help and simply left him to clean himself up once, when trying to get an answer out them they simply said that they couldnt do anything because of his behaviour. We were suposed to be liasing with a dementia care nurse who we didnt see once! The level of care was just undescribable! I work in a hospital in the south-east and I have never been so disgusted at how they treated the whole situation.
Anything else?
When I decided to write a letter to the hospital complaint service, all I got back was a snotty reply stating that what I had said was against what the nurses had said and that was the end of it. Their whole ethos of working as a caring hospital is completely wrong. I have even had problems with the treatment of my mother, who is now being referred to another hospital as the department with whom she is under also seem to be incompetant at their job
