"A nightmare"

About: North Middlesex Hospital

I suffered from a severe bout of suspected food poisoning on Tuesday and after 12 hrs of constant diarrhoea and vomiting and fever I called 111 who then called an ambulance. The care from the paramedics was amazing , my temperature was extremely high and would not go down so they took me to North Middlesex hospital. I was seen by a triage nurse immediately and given some medication and had blood tests. They were lovely and showed me through to where I had to wait and instructed a nurse that I need fluid and a bed as I was in a lot of pain. 3 hours later of sitting bent over In pain on a hard chair i was seen by a doctor after my partner went up to ask for the 5th time. The doctor asked me which nurse was looking after me and was I keeping fluid down ? I replied that since the triage nurse id not been seen by anyone nor had I been given any water. They seemed very shocked and said I should have been on a drip immediately,. They examined me and looked at my results but again did not do a thorough examination or address the abdominal pain. After fluids I felt bit better and by this point I just wanted to leave and go home and go to the Whittington hospital if it continued. The doctor was nice but over worked and there is clearly no communication between the different sections. The level of care after triage was appalling and I witnessed elderly patients being spoken to rudely. I hope I never ever have to go there again .

Thank's for your feedback. I am the A&E head of services gcarter-sandy@nhs.net, and your treatment after triage and staff attitude towards elderly patients will be discussed with the team.
