My GP requested an urgent appointment for me at kings mills dermatology department due to a suspect mole. I received the appointment very promptly and it was 13 days after the date of referral, excellent. Unfortunately I was unable to make that particular appointment and so rang to change it. I was told that I had to cancel but that the member of staff who makes urgent appointments would call me back, they didn't. The following day I rang and explained and was called back the same day, today. I was told that as I couldn't make that appointment and there were none available within 2 weeks of the referral the hospital would be fined and so it couldn't be amended, it was cancelled. I was told I would have to go back to my GP and be re referred and start again. I asked for an appointment on the 15 th day or the following week and considered it absurd that this is not possible or even considered. A decision has been made for possible cancerous moles to be looked at within 2 weeks but then the hospital is quite happy to completely stop the process and start again in order to meet targets and present a good picture, even if not accurate. Apparently putting patients first is a core principle of kings mill hospital, the website says so!! In this instance however not meeting targets, even though asked for by said patient, is the core principle of the hospital. I do intend to highlight this issue and also complain through PALS
