"Maternity care"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

First I'd like to thank the midwives and the doctor all who did treat me with respect and involve me in decisions. However upon the doctor going away and my care be transferred to another consultant it became clear that nobody was happy about me wanting to try for a natural delivery of my twins. One twin was footling breech and I agreed that if he stayed that way I would consent to the section. However at the scan it showed he had moved back to bottom breech and I asked that i be allowed to attempt a natural delivery. I was asked to speak to the consultant on call that day before I was discharged. It was evident the team of consultants were not happy with this choice and I suggested that I be allowed to go into labour naturally (and I would stay in hospital if needed) and if there was a team on who were comfortable with breech delivery I would try for a natural birth but if not I'd consent to the section. First the consultant showed me some outdated research and when that did not change my mind went on to tell me about a delivery they had done were the baby had to be decapitated!! When this did not get the result they wanted, they told me if I let the pregnancy progress past 38 weeks my babies would be still born to which I pointed out that in all the obs me and both babies we're perfectly healthy!! This doctor then told me that if it all went wrong that they and the other consultants would be thinking I told you so - even if they could not tell me that !! They then went on to say it was not just me I should be thinking about they would be traumatised and off all the paperwork they would have to do if there was an investigation. Needless to say after this I felt very pressurised and upset and I transferred my care to St Mary's in Manchester were I was supported in my choice and decision of how to have my babies.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to read that you did not have entirely positive experience and transferred to a different hopsital. You have raised some issues about communication and I think it would be helpful if we can look more closely into your experience. This will allow us to feedback our findings to you.
