I had, had a sigmoidoscopy at a different hospital previously and was such a bad experience that it had left me terrified of having the colonoscopy. I went for the pre assessment a week before and was seen by a lovely nurse who went through everything and listened to my worries and tried to assure me that it was not as bad as I was thinking. I did the prep the weekend of the procedure which wasn't particularly pleasant but needed to be done. On the day of the colonoscopy I saw another nurse who talked me through things and I explained how worried I was and they took note of this, I then saw the consultant before going in and explained my fears and they were lovely and decided to see it as a challenge to ensure my procedure was 100 times better than before. I then went in for the colonoscopy and everyone was so lovely and talked to me throughout and before I knew it I was told we were done! This time I had no pain and could not believe how different it had been. A big thank you to the consultant and the nursing team, I know now if I need another one I won't be as worried and the worst part is the prep. Brilliant, friendly and professional service from everyone.
