I had Pancreatic Surgery (MENI) at the Royal Hallamshire and I stayed on Ward J1. Any questions I had or worried about were answered immediately by my surgeon with empathy. I particularly appreciated how all the nursing staff were genuine and attentive.
I would have preferred more flexibility on meal times and meals. Not everyone wants breakfast at 8 and dinner at 11.30!
I think that having a place to walk around (perhaps some kind of terrace) to see outside would have helped my recovery.
I felt I was not always communicated with well. In POSU (Post Operative Support Unit) I was upset when my doctors were discussing me in medical terms I didn't understand and they weren't talking directly to me either which can be worrying.
I would like to thank the staff from POSU, particularly Matalie, who was amazing, tentative, caring and calming.
I would also like to thank the staff on J1. Amanda my support worker was wonderful. Sam, the staff nurse was brill. Gill was caring. And Scott the charge nurse was so clever and thorough and really puts you at ease.
All the staff on Ward J1 were fantastic, there are too many to thank individually but I would be more than happy in any of their care.
"Great care at Royal Hallamshire"
