I cannot fault the fantastic care I received from all members of staff at Darent. I was admitted through A&E after contacting the 111 service. Staff were reassuring, thorough and kept me informed of my condition. I was moved to Rosewood ward whilst awaiting a bed on the Respiratory ward. Once again, staff were encouraging, attentive and caring. Once moved to Palm ward the amazing care continued. Sr Helen's ward reflected a working environment where each member, whatever their role, understood their role in the care of the patient and the were valued by the leadership for the contribution they made. The doctors were focused and persistent in discovering the cause and treatment of my condition, giving me regular updates. The joyful, dedicated and professional care given by the nursing staff supported my emotional as well as physical recovery. The holistic approach taken by the hospital, embraced by all, pharmists, physiotherapists, phlebotomists, radiographers, caterers, cleaners, chaplaincy, porters and administrators certainly contributed to my recovery. The attention given to hand washing, use of alcohol gels, changing of bedding, aprons etc shows that these practices are embedded and a normal expectation of practice in the hospital. Meals were distributed by nursing staff, allowing opportunities for staff to support patients who had difficulty feeding themselves and to monitor their nutrition. The care was given with love. It cannot be easily assessed but it is easily felt. Thank you
"Compassionate care"
