"My mother died peacefully"

My mother went into Springwood in 2007. She had been registered as blind for about a year, and been seen to by Mapping Street. From the first day that she went into Springwood, she settled down very well, and the staff were wonderful and the food very good and the activities and other things to do were very good. They also made all the relatives and friends very welcome. Her health wasn’t as good as it should have been at times but the care she received from all the staff was first class. When she had a stroke she stayed at Springwood where she was looked after. Sadly she died in September 2009, but she was cared for and looked after and died peacefully.

Knowing your mother for only these few short years helped us to share in your personal loss. Your kind words of appreciation to the staff are especially generous at a time when you are grieving. Whatever her blindness must have felt like (to gradually lose sight of the world and indeed the faces she loved) her sense of humour prevailed. The staff strive to consider the sensory needs of all residents, and to provide a home full of lovely smells and sounds, and delicious tastes. This challenges us to think beyond what things look like, to ensure the complete experience is pleasant, enjoyable and comforting. Thank you for reminding us how important this is and for sharing your touching account of her time with us.
