I had an elective admission to Raglan Ward for an investigative laparoscopy.
I have never had surgery before so was extremely nervous but I was soon put to ease by the friendly, kind and empathetic manner displayed by each member of staff.
From the Anesthetist telling me that "we will take good care of you" to the the Specialist Registrar telling me that "everything will be OK". A caring pat on the arm from a Nursing Auxiliary and the banter with the porter on the way down to theater. I felt safe and they had my trust.
After the surgery the nursing staff were extremely professional, empathetic and diligent with their care. A special thanks to NA Kelly who really helped to put me at ease on the way to theater and was genuinely willing to help and support me with my recovery on the ward afterwards.
What could have been better? Unfortunately my procedure was delayed due to 2 cancellations. I fully appreciate this was due to winter pressures and not a reflection on the ward and I would like to say a special thank you to Mrs Pinto's team for prioritising me to ensure this wouldn't happen again.
I felt my dignity could have been better respected by the meal service staff. My curtain was drawn as I needed some privacy and without checking one of the hostesses put her head through the curtain asking for my meal tray. My husband tried to stop her but she just stated "don't worry I've seen worse and more" and carried on trying to get the tray. I was caught in a compromising position and felt embarrassed by this.
"My positive experience as a day surgery case"
