After being admitted on the morning of the 24th July I was prepared for surgery during the afternoon. After consultation with the doctor I was advised to have an epidural after looking at my previous health problems in the past, i.e. DVT in right leg and a stroke after surgery in my thirties.I thought the procedure was excellent and less invasive than general anaesthetic.
I came back to the ward (number 4, Bay 3) where my treatment was excellent, both from nurses and from day and night sisters. Nothing was too much trouble. I was even allowed to use the hospital phone as I do not have a mobile. I was in for 8 days as I had to have warfarin, which took longer with having to have blood tests until I had the correct INR.
Physiotherapy was excellent and I progressed well and exercised a lot myself while in bed so I could be as mobile as possible whilst living alone. I go regularly to see Nick at hospital each week and am managing without my crutches, just my walking stick.
I would also like to say that the food was excellent and nicely prepared. I cannot fault anything, and think the waiting time of 18 weeks is excellent. If hospitals could be given a rating like hotels, Bolton Royal deserves 5 stars.
