"poor care after operation"

About: Rotherham Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I underwent an operation 3 years ago and stayed in Rotherham General Hospital. Things may have changed now, but my experiences were not entirely good!

1) I was provided with a food tray, but it was left on the sideboard where I could not reach it: I was unable to get out of bed due to surgery. One of the patients took pity on me and passed my tray. I think it is important to ensure patients receive nourishment - it should be part of treating the whole patient and the process ('end to end' so to speak).

2) I was also talked over by attendants who gave me a bed bath, and I felt invisible - a thing rather than a person.

3) I had a lot of discomfort in my left hand around the tube inserted to take medicine. I asked for its removal as it was not required and it was 10 hours later when it was removed. I was bruised and it hurt a lot.

Thank you for providing your feedback relating to your care and treatment at Rotherham General Hospital 3 years ago. I was very sorry to read of your experience. It is not clear from your comments whether you discussed your concerns with staff at the time of your admission, but each ward at the hospital has a Matron with which such issues can be addressed and I am sorry if you were unaware of this. Thank you once again for taking the time to post your feedback on this website.
