Following attendance at the Orthopaedic Out Patient Clinic recently I was referred for an MRI scan at Victoria Hospital. I was given a referral card to take to Radiology before leaving the hospital and was asked there whether I could be available for a cancellation and attend at short notice. This was suitable for me.
On Friday I was telephoned and asked if I was prepared to be on standby on Sunday. I was then phoned on Sunday and asked to come in at 2. 15 as there would be space in a session set up primarily to deal with any in patients needing urgent scans that day. This was convenient for me and the whole procedure was dealt with within half an hour. The Radiographer and assistant on duty were very considerate.
This struck me as a good example of the hospital making best use of an expensive resource, having a good plan for dealing with immediate demand but making an assessment of what other routine activity could be accommodated as well, thus relieving pressure on other sessions.
A good example of patient centred care.
"Excellent service from Radiology Service"
