"Northern General Hospital - Embarrassing experience - Day Surgery "

About: Northern General Hospital

(as the patient),

I pre-arranged to have an indwelling catheter to be available at pre-op. As I have to do Intermittent Self Catheterisation (ISC) when I was admitted to day ward, one had to be found, then the nurses asked if I could put it in myself!!! Then they had to decide who was going to do it. After this the nurse who volunteered wasn't experienced and couldn't put it in. So the other nurse then had to do it. It turned out to have a faulty valve which I discovered at home to my greatest stress. What an embarrassing, distressing time for what was a short and simple operation.

All the staff were talking about being short staffed.
