"A different avenue would have been better"

About: Guernsey House / Primary care addiction service Sheffield (PCASS)

(as the patient),

I started using class A drugs when I was 14 as my best friend was an addict. However, I managed to resist getting a habit myself until I was 21. You couldn’t get a bud of cannabis around our area and someone offered me brown so I took it and began getting addicted from the word go. A few months into it I wish I’d been offered detox instead of methadone as I believe I would have been clean from drugs at this stage. However, having been given methadone I now have this habit as well as heroin. I believe a different avenue would have been better for me.

I am sorry to hear you have had this experience with our service, a discussion of all the options available to you including detox should have taken place at your initial assessment it appears in your case that this did not happen. While we cannot change what has taken place we can certainly discuss detox options with you now, please raise this at your next appointment or call the clinic to arrange to see us at a time which suits you best. Thank you for taking the time to make this posting.
