I went into labour on New Years Eve at 39 weeks and 5 days. I only have praise for the people that looked after me.
All the staff on delivery suite at New Cross Hospital were fantastic, very reasurring throughout. Both Emma & Kelly who were midwives on duty were lovely and went out of their way to show care and compassion to both me and my partner. The labour didnt progress as well as we all hoped and after having a previous C Section with my son we was trying for a normal delivery. However after being in labour since 08. 00 in the morning at approx 01. 30 on New Year Day after discussing with the register on shift (Mark) we decided another C Section was the best option.
Our daughter was delivered safely at 0247 hrs, all the staff in theatre were lovely and Mark was reassuring and made the experience memorable. I was looked after well in theatre and then again in recovery before being transferred to D10.
All the staff on in the early hours were lovely and made sure I was ok, gave me painkillers when required and checked on me to make sure I was ok after my partner had gone home.
Mark the register even came up to talk to me the following morning after his shift had ended, the C Section had been quite difficult infact the most difficult one he had done in 2 years.
I had been lucky as if we had continued with the labour and given a hormone drip, my bladder could have ruptured and I would have ended up with a bag for life so I felt very lucky to be ok and have a healthy baby girl. He advised he had wrote to my dr and explained that it would be better if I didnt have any more children because of the way my body was, it wouldn't manage another delivery.
All the staff on D10 were lovely and although they were very busy you never felt forgotten. They showed us care and were a true credit to their profession.
People are very quick to complain but people don't often take the time to say thank you when a job is well done so this is what I want to do.
I was scared going into labour and especially ending up in theatre, my last delivery wasn't a pleasant experience but this actually was and the care I was shown after was amazing and I will never forget that.
So big thank you to all the maternity staff and also my consultant who I saw during the pregnancy, Dr Helen Sullivan- she too was lovely and took the time to reassure me and answer any questions I had.
