"Peer Support Group"

About: HMP Nottingham

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I think that a Peer Support group or a Healthcare rep on each wing would be helpful as patients could air their concerns while they are in here and not feel alone with their problems.

A meeting could be held once a month like other prisons and let the patients see the minutes to that meeting. A section advertising focus groups would help including mental health, substance misuse and healthy living

Many thanks for your very helpful suggestion. I will be working with the residential managers to look at the possiblity of recruiting health reps for each area who will be able to support patients with how to access services and who to contact.

I will provide an update on the progress of this.

We are currently focussing on working with our prison partners around providing a regime that will ensure that all gentlemen residing at HMP Nottingham have fair access to all services available to them. There have been initial discussions with the reducing re-offending team about having health representatives but at present we are concentrating on having a regime that is beneficial to prisoners and additional development, whilst in development as a partnership we are prioritising the safe management of the prison and this area of development is a future aspiration.,

Kind regards

Helen
