The members of staff were polite. My son was taken into Aand E from school as he had a seizure for 6.5 mins with no PMH of seizure/epilepsy. Too many patients were left on hospital beds in corridors of a&e dept. as a RGN myself I found this to lack patient privacy and dignity which are part of basic requirements. Dr found lump in son's lower abdo.....I advised he suffers from constipation and so this does not concern me. Drs ignored my views and sent my son for an unnecessary ultrasound and then X-ray of lower abdo. Returned to AED dept to find cubicle we were allocated for a very short while was now occupied by another patient. Fair do as most of our time had been spent in various corridors. Dr handed me a in house script for movicol and a quick discharge. I replied so I will contact the paediatrician regarding my sons seizure and we already have lactulose and fybogel at home. Only basic observations were undertaken as part of initial assessment. We waited for someone to remove cannula no one came so, removed it myself. 4 hours of time and resources completely wasted. I was totally unhappy that the care provided was at this level. Patients are entitled to privacy. Patients are entitled to better care. It seemed to be a tick box system to allow a production line of patients to be fed through the dept at any cost. My child had elevated heart rate. He was not alert and orientated on discharge. He is lucky I am a nurse and I know how to care for him. Why is it that adult settings can not provide adequate care for most patients with special needs and/learning difficulties.
"Attended for seizure....discharged with movicol!"
