"walk in centre"

About: Wansbeck Hospital

I searched this service on the internet. Apparently there is no 'walk in' centre as we found out attending today. An appointment is required???? I though that 'walk in' centres were designed for people to walk in when they had medical problems that were not serious enough to be seen in A& E..makes perfect sense. So how do we access services that are not serious for A&E on a Sunday but need to be dealt with?

Dear Sir/Madam, I am sorry that this information isn't clear - as a system, we do need to improve this if we want members of the public to use services in an appropriate way and ease the burden on A&E departments. Just to confirn my response to an earlier post, the Primary care access centre is not a 'Walk In Centre'. It is an appointments based service that was set up by 3 local GP surgeries and is accessed by these surgeries for appointments. Appointments for the centre can also been accessed via the 111 service if suitable. We are currently looking at ways to develop this service further to meet the needs of our patients and provide access to care at the time it is needed. Reviews like yours help inform this process so I am very grateful for the time you have taken to share your experience with us. Apologies again for any frustration caused last Sunday. Best wishes, Annie
