In for a wrist op and onto a mixed ward. The day staff could not have been better - took time to know the patients, conditions and treatment. But when the night shift came on things rapidly changed. One old lady screamed for hours and I didn't see anyone attend to her. I woke in agony and buzzed for pain relief and it seemed forever before the HCA came. The nurses didn't move from the station, which I found unforgivable and I got up and stomped down there to find them talking and reading magazines!
It seems such a shame that the wonderful caring ethos of the day staff did not translate to the night staff.
