My mother was recently admitted to Addenbrookes. I read with dismay the reports today of poor performance at Addenbrookes. Whilst I understand the very real issues relating to the lack of bed space, lack of social care and quality nursing staff I wanted to balance this and voice my view of the care received by my mother. Many reports have focused on 4 hour targets, yet there is little mention that the teams are working incessantly to provide a quality level of care to its patients, of which I feel is of paramount importance and moreso than 4 hour targets. From her treatment by the first responder at home, the ambulance crew that took her to Addenbrookes and each member of staff that she came into contact with in the emergency department she was treated with the uptmost of care and dignity. The emergency department was incredibly busy and whilst there was a wait in the ambulances, Mum was being looked after with exceptional care. The very fact that Addenbrookes are able to deliver such a high standard of care despite what must be unrelenting pressures of numbers of patients, should be applauded. I send my heartfelt thanks to those in the emergency department, ambulance crews and the clinical teams on the wards.
