"Thankyou to ward 7"

About: Moseley Hall Hospital

My mother was discharged from ward 7 on Christmas day after a 2 week stay following transfer from the QE. During her stay she was well looked after. On her arrival she was given a thorough assessment of her condition by the nurse and the doctor on duty and was made to feel very welcome. Whilst mom was initially upset by the transfer from the QE she quickly settled and this was in no small part to the staff who encouraged her independence and were there when she needed additional help. Physiotherapists supported her rehabilitation well and the doctors kept her well informed on her progress. I was impressed that the independence of patients is encouraged where possible e.g. dressing into day clothes, going to the dining room and socialising together. The camaraderie which developed on moms 8 bedded section was comforting as they would buzz for the nurse for each other, and others, who were not always able to do so. The additional support on the ward for patients was positive, such as the dog which made a visit to patients and the accordion player in the dining area, whilst these could not be enjoyed by all patients it was nice to see the effort being made to help patients relax, I hope you are able to continue with this support. My mom was even given a Christmas present and a card when she left. The staff I witnessed (doctors, nurses, cleaning staff and physiotherapists) were pleasant and helpful and executed their duties with the professionalism you would expect. Overall mom was well looked after and was suitably prepared to return home with most of her confidence intact following her fall; for a patient such as my mom that is ultimately what we wished for, Thankyou.

Thank you for posting feedback about your mother's experience whilst on Ward 7 of Moseley Hall Hospital. The ward team work hard to create a therapeutic environment which meets the needs of the patients in their care, and I am delighted to read how the environment and activities encouraged your mother to prepare for life beyond her stay in hospital. Your comments have been forwarded to the Clinical Team Leader and Matron to share with the ward team. May I take this opportunity to wish you and your mother a very happy and healthy New Year. Kind regards Alison Last Associate Director of Patient Experience
