My Mum was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease last year, thanks to a very good District nurse who spotted it and made sure the referrals were made.
She has since been seen a Neurology Consultant at Rugby Hospital and the Parkinson's Specials Nurse in Coventry. In addition she has been visited by a Community Physiotherapist, Parkinson District Nurse and Support Worker.
Importantly she has a plan of treatment which she feels in control of and knows who to contact if there is a problem. Her clinic letters are copied to her and are very well written. She has been given good (and appropriate) written information on the disease, and her understanding of this is checked each time she sees a clinician.
I was present with her at one appointment and was really impressed with the knowledge and skills of the Specialist Nurse, and the way the team works together.
Mum is being treated really well and was keen, as I am, to let people know.
This is the NHS at its finest. Thank you.
