I was hesitant of giving birth at medway given all the bad press recently. I had planned a water birth in the new birthing centre.
My actual labour turned out to be an emergency intervention delivery due to my body resisting the labour, which in turn put my baby's life at risk - also the cord was around his neck.
The care I received whilst in hospital at the pearl ward, delivery suite and kent ward following delivery was second to none. I felt very reassured and in safe hands at the hospital.
During labour in the pearl ward I had a senior and student midwife with me all day. The senior midwife stayed with me through to delivery explaining what was going on very clearly to myself and my husband. I was asked before any treatment if I consented which I really appreciated. I felt very informed and well looked after throughout the whole ordeal. The surgeon even though he was rushing because of the emergency, never made me panic or feel worried what so ever.
Despite a horrible delivery which was out of my hands, I cannot thank the staff enough for looking after me and my baby so well.
Similarly all the staff in the kent ward looking after me and my baby were so supportive of our needs, always helped when I had questions and didn't hesitate to spend time with me helping to breastfeed etc.
My husband stayed with me for the 2 nights and he was also offered tea and food too!
It was a pleasant experience at medway and well done to the maternity staff at the hospital, they are amazing!
