Resting and recuperating at home after a short stay for a very big operation at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre. Operation not as bad as feared, but by the same token it was no stroll in the park. On the morning prior to the procedure the consultant anaesthetist and consultant surgeon popped their head around the curtain for a chat. It was great to see two familiar faces, and more to the point made me feel loved. After the operation I spent a day in Cardiac Intensive Care - can't remember much about that, but big thanks to all staff involved. Then onto Ward 38: came into contact with nurses, ward assistants, registrars, sisters, radiographers, physiotherapists and a matron or two. The consultant anaesthetist and surgeon paid me a visit too - I liked that, and felt loved all over once again. My experience was first-rate. Treatment was excellent and highly competent. Staff were caring and considerate. Much emphasis on nutrition - food was good - and exercise - breathing and walking. Discharged after 5 days with a party bag from the hospital pharmacy - pills galore. The Lancashire Cardiac Centre at BVH is, without doubt, a jewel in the crown of NHS provision in this neck of the woods. I recommend them highly.
