My mother has stage 4 cancer and despite this and needing her stomach delt with twice weekly, is very fit, loves going out and living life to the full.
Alas, what has happened 50 percent of the time, so far, is my mum is told something like "a district nurse will be around this morning" then the morning comes and goes, my dad will phone and they will then assure him that they will be around in the evening and then no one shows then either!
In this day and age where communication has never been easier, things like this are just not good enough.
Everyone appreciates with nursing and dealing with people in general, things happen, but to not just show up or even just to be courteous enough to text "running two hours late" is appalling.
Just because someone is old/ill it doesn't mean they are sitting in with nothing better to do, often they have a short time left on this earth and want to make the best of what they have left and things like this add stress/worry to something that can so easily be solved by being somewhere when you say you are going to be.
It is worth mentioning too, that when the nurse/s do arrive, they are excellent and the lady when all this is mentioned, every time says "this wont happen again, it's all on the computer now, my apologies" but we are at our wits end, because then it does happen again!
"District nurses sometimes don't show up"
