I had a procedure scheduled for October which I duly attended for at 12pm as requested. Unfortunately I was last on the list so did not go to theatre until around 5. 30pm - however that is to be expected.
I have to say that I had a really positive experience on the day surgery unit. My Consultant Mr Jonathan Gill was lovely and extremely friendly - taking the time to explain the procedure to me in full. The staff on the ward were friendly enough - although Anita in the theatre was AMAZING! ! So friendly and put me at ease straight away. She is a real credit.
The only downside was some of the other moaning patients! It's a day case unit and a busy one at that. The moaning seemed to be around the lack of space on arrival and not many chairs - well perhaps if 20 plus relatives were not sat there too 'camped out' with laptops and magazines then there would definitely be more space! ! !
The only relatives or carers who should remain should be the one's who genuinely need to - my ONLY criticism would be that staff should police that better. It's also not great having men and women stood around in dressing gowns and gowns STOOD up while relatives fill the seats!
However overall a very positive FREE service which we should remember. The only point to mention also was that whilst I was sat waiting to be allocated a trolley I had the misfortune to be sat next to a male relative who spent most of his time documenting on his laptop every staff members movement with odd criticisms to his wife along the way. It's a free service and a good one at that!
I felt very sorry for this person that that is all he had to do with his time and is another reason why relatives should not be allowed inside!
"A very positive free service"
