"Still Waiting for an Emergency Operation"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

My son (9 months) has been on the emergency waiting list for almost seven weeks to have a Diaphragmatic hernia repair. We have been in hospital three times now and each time the operation has been unable to take place due to there being no Intensive Care bed available. Yesterday we were sent home and told to phone this morning only to be told again there is no bed for him. Whilst I appreciate that other emergencies will happen I cannot see how the level of care my son is receiving is acceptable.

Dear Nicola, We are really sorry to hear about the cancellation of your son's procedure. It's clear you already know why this has happened but we would like to give you some further reassurance and an explanation of what will happen next. If you would like to discuss this further, please ask you to contact Deputy Head of Nursing, Elizabeth on 0116 258 6695 or email Elizabeth.Aryeetey@uhl-tr.nhs.uk Kind regards Commmunications Team Leicester's Hospitals
