About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Dermatology (Skin Conditions)

(as a relative),

Husband Suffered a severe excema flare up. Had already been referred for consultants appt. and GP promised a few weeks ago to write again to try and obtain an urgent app.

Currently suffering his worst ever attack since childhood (now in his 50s). Went to GP today and they promised again to chase up appt. I decided to call the dermatology dept myself today to find out if there was any progress.

The person that I spoke to informed me that there was nothing on file to indicate an urgent app had been requested for my husband but that any request would have gone to the consultants and if they had deemed it "non urgent" would be ignored.

I explained that we deemed it urgent as my husband is covered in sores, off work again, in pain and has even been on steroids, which have not helped.

I was also informed today that the current wait was 6-8 months, which I believe is well above target times and a fat lot of good to someone who is suffering and in pain now!

Dear Rudi

The service concerned thought you might like to made aware of the following information:

Please be advised if a patient is on our routine waiting list and a GP writes to us again to inform us that they have had a change in circumstances, it is our usual practise for this letter to be screened by one of our consultants to advise if they wish to upgrade the referral and see the patient sooner.

The description you provded would ordinarily prompt the consultant to ask for the patient to be booked in for an appointment immediately.

I am sorry to hear that at the point of your telephone call the department had no record of a letter from your GP advising of a change in your husband's circumstances. I hope that this has now been resolved.
